Sodium hydroxide

Caustic soda, also known as sodium hydroxide, is a caustic inorganic chemical compound with the formula NaOH. It is a clear, colourless liquid that is easily soluble in water. Due to its strong alkaline nature, sodium hydroxide is often used as a base solution in the chemical industry. It is used in the production of soaps, cleaning products, textiles, paper, plastics and many other chemical products. In industrial processes such as biodiesel production or the production of paper and pulp, caustic soda is used as a catalyst or reagent. It also plays a role in metal processing, such as etching and cleaning metals.
