Benzotriazole
Benzotriazole is a heterocyclic organic compound, which is poorly soluble in water and has a faint aromatic odour. It has a variety of uses. Benzotriazole is used as a corrosion inhibitor for metals such as copper, zinc, silver and aluminium. It forms a protective film on the metal surface that protects the metal from corrosion caused by moisture and aggressive environmental conditions. Benzotriazole is used as a corrosion inhibitor in coolants and antifreeze. In addition, it is used as a UV stabiliser in plastics to prevent their degradation by UV radiation and to extend the life of the plastics.
