Azelaic acid
Azelaic acid is an organic, saturated dicarboxylic acid derived from renewable raw materials. In addition to pharmaceutical and cosmetic applications (e.g. in skin creams), it has numerous industrial applications.
Industrial applications known to us are:
Plastics and polymer industry
+ Manufacture of polyamides (e.g. nylon 6, 9)
+ Building block for polyester, alkyd and polyester resins
+ Use in bio-based plastics (e.g. plasticiser alternatives)
Plasticisers & lubricants
+ Component in plasticisers for plastics (PVC, rubber)
+ Use in synthetic lubricants and oils
+ Hydraulic oils, compressor oils, gear oils
Paints & coatings
+ Raw material for alkyd resins in coatings, films and paints
+ Contributes to scratch-resistant and chemical-resistant surfaces
Adhesives & sealants
+ Use in reactive resins
+ Binder for epoxy and polyurethane adhesives
Additives & speciality chemicals
+ Intermediate product in the manufacture of corrosion inhibitors
+ Use in foam reduction and emulsifier production
